Small Business Academy – powered by Co.Starters
Small Business Academy is a three-month program that provides participants with the knowledge, relationships, and tools necessary to turn business ideas into action. The only requirements to join the program are (1) have an idea, (2) be willing to question, shape, and improve that idea, and (3) be willing to talk about the idea with others. In this facilitator-led, small-group program, participants develop and refine their ideas, critically examine each part, and determine what to do next through real-time feedback from people in the community. This approach allows participants to quickly discover potential problems in their concepts and find viable models more quickly. Participants leave the program with the tools and skills necessary to create a sustainable business. In partnership with the Owatonna Area Business Development Center (OABDC), with funding provided in part by SMIF, DEED, SBDC, and SBA. Scholarships and materials in Spanish are also available. Classes are held at OABDC: 1065 24th Ave. SW, Owatonna, MN 55060.Materials for this class are $199, but are fully refunded upon completion of the course. An invoice for the materials will be sent after registration from the Owatonna Area Business Development Center.

Playful Preschoolers
These combined-age preschooler classes provide families with current information about the important role of play for growing healthy preschoolers. Play teaches a child how the world works, and gives practice in independent thinking skills helpful in their school years. Children will experience the new "Read, Play, Learn" Curriculum, designed to provide rich literature and vocabulary that allows children to use their imagination and creativity to use play to fully "live the story" and practice new vocabulary. During parent time this class will focus on the social, emotional, and language development necessary for strengthening relationships in families and for school readiness.

The YouTube “vlogger” style presentation of the video brings a youthful and high-energy spirit to the program content, along with handouts, demonstrations, and additional resources. At the end of the class, students will receive their certification card along with instructions to access a digital copy of the Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) student book. From getting started with your business to collaborating with parents and children to key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Driver Education Training by state law must consist of thirty (30) hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction.
