Beginning Rug HookingArtful LivingThe art of making rugs was born out of necessity. Hand-hooked rugs were created by rural women to cover the bare floors of their homes. Rug hooking uses a hand hook, similar in shape to a crochet hook, to form a looped pile from fabric strips made of wool on an even-weave base fabric, typically of linen or monks cloth. In this class, students will learn the basic rug hooking technique of pulling loops of wool fabric with a rug hook, through the foundation fabric of the rug hooking pattern. They will learn how to hook straight lines, corners, points, and curves. The first class will last 2.5 hours. Students start the project and take it home as "homework" if not finished. The second class will last 1.5 hours the following week and there will be instruction on finishing the project. Please note: The first class session will run Saturday from 10AM-12:30PM. The second class session will run Wednesday from 5:00PM-6:30PM.Winter 2023
