Take a walk around the beautiful grounds of the former Minnesota State Public School (Orphanage) and Owatonna State School. Hear stories about what the grounds looked like and what took place there. Over 10,000 children lived there over the course of the years 1885-1945. Don't miss your chance to hear this incredible piece of Owatonna history!Please wear comfortable shoes. The tour will be led by Orphanage Museum Director, Anne Peterson, and local historian, Nancy Vaillancourt.

Video Game Design (Entering Grades 4-9)

This course will give you hands-on experience developing your own game. Students will create their own version of asteroids using Construct 3, a visual coding platform that teaches students the basics and structure of programming. Bring a USB drive, lunch and drink.

3D Printing: Poke' Monsters (Entering Grades 2-7)

Become a Poke'mon Master of 3D Design! Design your own unique 3D Poke'mon using TinkerCAD. Explore your creativity and experiment with SimLab and create themed video games. Learn the basics of CAD modeling and design software. One of your creations will be 3D printed. Printing and material fees are included. If printing is not completed in class, prints will be mailed home. Please bring lunch and a drink.

Mod Development: Minecraft Superhero Mods (Entering Grades 2-6)

Use MCreator to create your own mods based off your favorite superheroes. Design unique superhero abilities and tools for Minecraft Java Edition. Bring a USB drive, lunch and a drink.

Magical Wizards Minecraft Adventures (Entering Grades 1-5)
Kids Classes
Immerse yourself in the wizarding world of Harry Potter by crafting and building iconic locations like Hogwarts Castle or Diagon Alley within Minecraft. Build and play themed mini games. We will be using the PC/Java edition of Minecraft. Students should have basic reading skills and be comfortable using a computer. Bring a USB drive, lunch and a drink.

Super Mario Game Coding (Entering Grades 2-5)

This course will give you hands-on experience developing your game using Scratch 3, a visual coding platform. Students will learn to think like programmers and learn coding concepts with a Super Mario Bros.-themed game. The first part of the class will be instructor-led. With any remaining time, students will have the opportunity to customize their games. Please bring a USB drive, lunch and a drink.

Star Wars-Themed Game Coding (Entering Grades 2-5)

Don't just PLAY games, CREATE them! Create and learn to modify our Star Wars-themed games using scratch. Students will be walked through step-by-step tutorials to create 2-3 working games and animations using popular Star Wars sprites. With any remaining time, students will be challenged to modify or improve the games created in class. Bring a USB drive, lunch and a drink.

Video Production: YouTube Shorts, IG Reels & Tik Tok (Entering Grades 2-6)

Unleash your creativity and become a content creator. Learn the art of producing video shorts for Tik Tok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels. Edit the video, add motion graphics and special effects to your own video short, while practicing storytelling and film production techniques. Explore the art behind creating compelling short videos that resonate with audiences. Bring a USB drive (at least 8 GB), lunch and a drink.

Extreme Robo-Games:Battlebot Olympics (Entering Grades 3-7)
Kids Classes
Students will work in small teams using the EV3 Mindstorms Robotic Systems and specialized LEGO Technic engineering components to build extreme robots and run programs to experiment with and overcome Olympic-style challenges. Student teams will then be challenged to morph their projects into better, stronger, or faster robots. Please bring lunch and a drink.
