West Hills Guided Tour
Take a walk around the beautiful grounds of the former Minnesota State Public School (Orphanage) and Owatonna State School. Hear stories about what the grounds looked like and what took place there. Over 10,000 children lived there over the course of the years 1885-1945. Don't miss your chance to hear this incredible piece of Owatonna history!Please wear comfortable shoes. The tour will be led by Orphanage Museum Director, Anne Peterson, and local historian, Nancy Vaillancourt.

Driver Education 2024-2025 School Year
Driver Education
Driver Education Training is required for students who wish to obtain their driver’s license before their 18th birthday. Driver Education Training by state law must consist of thirty (30) hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. Students must attend the 30 hours of instruction offered on the dates and times listed. Every session must be attended, unless ill, but even then, those hours must be made up. It is recommended, but not required, that students be 15 years old by the last day of class. Registration includes both classroom and behind the wheel instruction. The Owatonna Driver Education program is approved by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and is taught by certified licensed instructors. This class is for participants who are 14.5 years or older before the start of classes. Please Note: There will be a “Parent Packet” that your child will bring home on the first day of class. This packet will explain all the steps necessary for your child to obtain a permit and license. This packet must be signed and returned to the Driver Education classroom for successful classroom completion. A 1.5hr Parent Class for the parents of a new student driver will be offered at the Owatonna High School. Attendance in this class is not mandatory. More information on the Parent Class will be provided in the Parent Packet mentioned above. Students do not need to attend the Parent Class.

Early Childhood Screening Minnesota State Law requires that all preschoolers be screened once prior to entering public and some private kindergartens. Your child can be screened from 3- 5 years old, or at least a year before entering kindergarten. Early Childhood Screening is FREE, but families still need to "check out" to be registered.

Early Explorers is specific for 3 year old's who are ready to gain more independence, practice social skills, and get a taste of preschool through play and exploration. Parents required to participate in weekly parent-child activities posted in a free app called ClassDojo or enroll in an additional parent/child class.

Extreme Robo-Games:Battlebot Olympics (Entering Grades 3-7)
Kids Classes
Students will work in small teams using the EV3 Mindstorms Robotic Systems and specialized LEGO Technic engineering components to build extreme robots and run programs to experiment with and overcome Olympic-style challenges. Student teams will then be challenged to morph their projects into better, stronger, or faster robots. Please bring lunch and a drink.

Home Alone (Grades 2+)

Is your child ready for the independence of being home alone? Parents need to be sure their children have the skills and maturity to handle the responsibility safely. Whether it is for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class for children will address several topics relating to being home alone including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after school routines, phone calls, door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, fire safety, intruders, and first aid tips. Students attend this class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child.

Husky Chow Culinary Camp is for kids ages 8-12. Boys and Girls are welcome! This learning class will focus on the learning skills to navigate the kitchen safely, working with small appliances and kitchen and ranges, identifying and correctly naming kitchen equipment and learning to read recipes. All activities are hands-on while learning to create delicious foods we will enjoy in class. Safety comes first, come prepared to listen and follow directions! Informational Session: Becoming a Child Foster Parent

MN Prairie County Alliance is offering a free informational session regarding child foster care and the child foster care licensing process. Interested applicants who live in Steele, Dodge, or Waseca County will learn about what to expect when becoming a foster parent and be guided step-by-step as you get your child foster care license. There is a virtual and an in-person session offered for this information.
