YEL! Jumpstart Hoops Basketball (Grades K-3)
Join this fast-paced, inclusive (everyone plays) class. YEL’s Teach It, Practice It, Play It® approach teaches players new skills each class, practices those skills in kid-friendly activities, and then encourages students to use those skills in introductory basketball games. Emphasis is placed on basic skills development of dribbling, shooting, passing, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Sign up soon...the shot-clock is running down!

Buddy & Me Rock Climbing (Grades 2+)

Want a fun activity with your adult? This beginning rock climbing class covers the safety and skills of indoor rock climbing and belaying. Both adult and little will spend time climbing the rock wall. Bigs will belay each other and their littles. Class meets at the new Owatonna Middle School rock wall. Participants must be entering 2nd grade or higher for the 2024-2025 school year. Your favorite adult could be a parent/guardian, grandparent, sibling, your Big, or a responsible friend. Max of 2 participants per adult. A liability waiver will need to be signed and returned to Roosevelt School before class starts. Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Program (Grades 4+)
Kids Classes
The Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program from the American Safety and Health Institute provides everything you need to know for safe and successful babysitting. The YouTube "vlogger" style presentation of the video brings a youthful and high-energy spirit to the program content along with handouts, demonstrations, and additional resources. At the end of the class, the students will receive their certification card along with instructions to access a digital copy of the Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) student book. From getting started with your business, to collaborating with parents and children, to key safety concepts, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will set you up for success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification that is valid for two years. Students attend this class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen.

Clay for Kids: Pottery Wheel 10yrs +

How do you throw clay on the wheel? It’s not what it seems. Learn how to use the wheel to create three dimensional forms and vessels. Demonstrations will cover the basics of wedging, centering, pulling, trimming, and forming useable vessels. Beginners, come and get your hands muddy! If you are accustomed to clay come fine-tune your skills, learn a new technique, and challenge yourself with larger more complex forms. Dress for a mess and wear tennis shoes. Elementary Robotics Team (Entering Grades 4-5)

Is your child enthusiastic to learn and has an interest in technology? FIRST® LEGO® League Explore is a global robotics program which guides youth through STEM exploration. This robotics program will include 12 sessions of fun, hands-on learning. Working as a team, participants will work through activities based on the current year theme to problem solve and test their engineered design and code together. This includes using LEGO® bricks powered by LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential. This program is for children in 4th and 5th grade only. No coding experience necessary.

Home Alone (Grades 2+)

Is your child ready for the independence of being home alone? Parents need to be sure their children have the skills and maturity to handle the responsibility safely. Whether it is for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class for children will address several topics relating to being home alone including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after school routines, phone calls, door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, fire safety, intruders, and first aid tips. Students attend this class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child.

Shamrockin' Kids' Buttercream Cookie Decorating

In this class, youth ages 8-12 years old will learn basic piping techniques using buttercream icing, then put those new skills to work by decorating their own sugar cookie masterpieces. At the end of this class, students will have 4 decorated shamrock sugar cookies, placed in a gift box (decorated by the student), ready to take home to their lucky friends. All supplies are provided by the instructor and included in session fee.

CoSpaces is an incredibly fun and stimulating way to learn STEM! VR programs can be viewed on most mobile phones, and VR systems like oculus or google cardboard.
